We hired Lola, a VW California Exclusive (long wheel base with a loo), for 8 days in April. From the very start the holiday went smoothly.

Gonzalo met us from the airport in his fantastic vintage VW bus bang on time and from there he took us to get introduced to Lola, our home for the next week.

Everything we needed was in the van and there was plenty of storage for our things too. Gonzalo was extremely patient and thorough in his hand over and we felt confident and excited as we set off! We had pre-booked our first night at Camping Cabopino near Marbella and we were delighted with the impressive facilities and its proximity to the beach.

We got pitched easily and after a pizza in the campsite restaurant, settled in for the night. The beds were easy to fold out and we felt so cozy!

We slept well and woke up to the sunshine keen to get out and explore. From Cabopino we set out to get away from the more developed areas and with our map and guide-book to hand we embarked on a wonderful trip up the coast taking in the apes of the Rock of Gibraltar and the unspoilt village of Puerto de Santa Maria (Camping Las Dunas) –where we took the catamaran to Cadiz and ate gorgeous tapas in the beach bar.

From the coast we headed into the mountains and took in the amazing village of Ronda (Camping El Sur) and then the incredible Sierra Nevada (Camping Las Lomas). Every campsite was welcoming and immaculate although the pools were mostly closed that early in the season.

We are experienced campers but the campervan was a new experience for us. We loved driving Lola and the driving position was perfect for appreciating the spectacular scenery.

The boys are used to being squeezed in the back of the car with all the camping equipment so they were thrilled to be up high with loads of leg room.

We all loved the road-trip element of the holiday and the excitement of arriving at a new campsite and scoping out the area! Lola handled like a dream and took up the challenge of narrow village streets in Antequera and the dizzying mountain roads leading to El Torcal.

Overall we simply couldn’t fault our holiday. The personal service Gonzalo provided gave us confidence and the wonderful Lola ensured that we had fun in style.

A perfect family holiday that has inspired us to get our own van and be more adventurous! Thank you Flamenco Campers!
